Despite dominating this Evo-Stik Southern League division 1 south west game for the first twenty five minutes, when they could easily have been five goals up, Town eventually lost this encounter by 2 - 1.

Clevedon started in fine fashion and could have taken the lead after two minutes when it appeared that Scott Murray had been brought down in the penalty area but the referee adjudged not and waved play on.

Scott did however open the scoring on five minutes when a cross from Mike Stephenson found him at the far post and his header back across the goal deceived Alex Harris in the home goal to give the visitors a 1 - 0 lead.

Two minutes later Harris brought down Scott Murray in the box, this time the referee did award the penalty and Scott blasted the ball low to Harris's right for what looked like a second goal.

Harris had other ideas and a fine diving save thwarted the effort.

Continuing to dominate, Murray, out on the left, sent in a perfect chip over the keeper only to see his effort rebound off the cross bar, Mike Stephenson, following up saw his first time effort cleared off of the line.

Five minutes later Alex Russell saw the same end to his effort when Warren Archer was on hand to clear off of the line with Harris beaten.

The saga of chances continued when on twenty one minutes, Ben Murray beat Harris with his effort only to see this one rebound off of the post.

Cinderford's first real effort came on 27 minutes when a speculative shot from all of 25 yards out, through the visitors' defence, by Lee Smith, suddenly found its way in to the visitors' net to bring the scores level at 1 - 1.

This seemed to wake up the hosts and seven minutes later a long ball in to the Clevedon box, saw Lewis Sommers out jump Lee Matthews and his header put Cinderford 2 - 1 in front.

They almost went further ahead on 36 minutes but this time Matthews saved the headed effort from Sommers.

The second half was a more dour affair with both sides looking to score but neither side being able to find the target.

For Cinderford, Sommers was always the main threat with his height and it seemed that every ball put forward from their defence was aimed at him.

Clevedon had a few good chances to level the scores with Scott Murray, Adi Adams and Steve Kingdon coming close but in the end the home defence held out to clinch the victory that at the start looked anything but.
