ORGANISERS behind the annual Tough Ten Race in nearby Weston-super-Mare are predicting a record number of entrants at next year's race.

The 10-mile multi terrain race hosted by the Lions Club of Weston-super-Mare has taken place in the seaside resort for the past 21-years with participant levels rising year on year.

Entry is now open for next year's race on February 24, and organisers say given the interest already, they hope to break the record for the number of runners.

Race director, Mike Buckland, said: "We are delighted with the response we have had so far and if we continue to gain an influx of runners, we anticipate reaching record numbers.

"So if you haven't already signed up please make sure you enter soon via the race website www.toughten.co.uk before all spaces are filled.

"Every year the race supports a worthy charity and this year sponsorship will go to Diabetes UK, the leading UK charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes."

The Tough 10 course is designed to be within the capabilities of any normally fit runner or jogger aged 16 + and uses sections of closed road along Weston seafront.

This continues along a section of the promenade, woodland paths and trails within Worlebury Woods and a stretch of the beach.

In parts the route is flat and fast and in other sections there are short climbs and long downhill sections.

The race gets underway and 11am and a time limit of two hours is placed on the event to prevent road closures being in place for too long.

There will also be a one-mile fun run on the day for runners aged five-years and upwards at 10.15am taking place on the beach.

An adult must accompany youngsters aged between five and 10-years and they must officially enter the race and display their number throughout.

Entry fees for the fun run are £3 for children (five-15-years), £4 adults (16 +), £3 for adults accompanying a child and Tough 10 fees are £14 for affiliated runners, £16 for unaffiliated runners.
