Despite doubts about the pitch beforehand the Seasiders drew at home on Saturday to Evesham.

After another magnificent effort by the ground staff this Evo-Stik Southern League went ahead as scheduled.

Clevedon started strongly and could easily have been in front after three minutes when Aron Robbins charged down a clearance from the defence, claimed the ball, slipped it past Tom Cross in the visitors' goal only to see it go the wrong side of the near post.

Evesham's first chance came on six minutes when a long range effort from Leigh Downing was blasted well wide.

Both sides were playing good football with the home side just shading the match, efforts from Clayton Fortune and Rory Prendergast being dealt with by the Evesham keeper.

On 22 minutes a beautiful through ball from Alex Russell fell to Fortune who controlled it, turned and almost beat Cross, a finger tip save putting the ball out for a corner.

Against the run of play a free kick rebounded from the Clevedon defence and a snap shot from 35 yards out by Sam Adkins flew in to the back of the net giving Lee Matthews in the home goal no chance.

Right on the stroke of half time, a free kick from Aron Robbins beat Cross but then just shaved the top of the cross bar.

The second half started much the same as the first with both sides looking to gain the upper hand.

For Clevedon, Robbins, Stephenson, Russell Church and Fortune came close, whilst at the other end Carl Brown had a close range shot brilliantly saved by Lee Matthews and Leon Kandekore picked up a long range clearance that bounced over the Clevedon back four only to see his chip over Matthews hit the outside of the post.

Clevedon continued to play football in the heavy conditions and were rewarded in the 91 minute when a free kick out on their left taken by Aron Robbins was only half cleared by the Evesham defence, the ball fell to Clayton Fortune who calmly tapped the ball through a host of legs in to the net to secure a share of the points for Town.

Attendance was 142 and the Clevedon man-of-the-match Mike Stephenson.
