German friends from Clevedon's twin town of Ettlingen were in town last weekend for a three day visit.
German mayor visit
Visitors included the Mayor of Ettlingen, Herr Johannes Arnold and the organisers of the Clevedon- Ettlingen Friendship Society, Dr Ruth Dietel and Karin Herder-Gysser. Also included in the party were head teachers Ulrike Gargel and Christine Kirchgassner who are in charge of the two German schools which have an annual exchange programme with Clevedon Community School.
On Thursday evening more than 20 guests enjoyed a sumptuous meal at Clevedon Golf Club hosted by the Twinning Association.
And on Friday, Chairman of Clevedon Town Council, Cllr Pat McNeill, members of the town Council and the committee of the Twinning Association officially welcomed the guests at a civic reception at the town hall in Old Street.
Other weekend attractions included a guided tour of North Somerset Council Chambers, a visit to Clevedon Community School, a trip along Clevedon Pier and a tour of the Curzon Cinema which is twinned with the Kulisse Cinema in Ettlingen.
Clevedon Twinning Association chairwoman Janet Wildgoose said: "This was a very successful weekend visit, further strengthening the bonds between our two towns. Our association is very grateful to Clevedon Town Council for its positive involvement and to the representatives from North Somerset Council, Clevedon Community School, Clevedon Pier and the Curzon Cinema, who made the visitors so welcome. We look forward to many more exchanges with our German friends in the future."
