There are so many options on the market to increase your vechle's performance and fuel mileage. There are a bunch of Performance Chip vendors, and they offer so many different types of products.

In this article, we're going to talk about Performance Chips for Cars and Trucks, what they do, and how they're different.

First, there are a few different types of chips. In this article, we're going to go over OBDII chips, Chips that plug into your air/fuel ratio sensor, and complete ECU replacements.

Complete ECU Replacements

Complete ECU Replacements are not for the faint of heart. Not only is it extremely hard to access your vehicles computer, but the risk of damaging it is extremely high! Did you know a replacement ECU could cost you over *3,000.00? Think twice before using one of these chips. They can be extremely powerful in the right hands. You'll usually need one of these chips if you're doing a complete custom engine swap or making extreme modifications to your existing engine.

OBDII chips are great. They are easy to install and work well. Usually they'll have a screen on them, and they typically allow you to make adjustments to your vehicle. While they pack a ton of features, are they really necessary? Are you going to be "fine tuning your engine"? Do you know what things like X Parts Air for X Parts Fuel, or Timing Degrees, or Shift Points? If not, stay away. Another issue with OBDII chips are that they tend to install software that is easily traced by the dealer. That being the case, if you have a warranty, kiss it goodbye. Same as complete ECU replacements, OBDII chips are really only worth it for people who know how to tune vehicles. Unless you have a vast knowledge of vehicle tuning, and a big wallet (they typically cost *350+) - we do not advise buying one of these chips.

Air/Fuel Plug and Play Chips - Highly Recommended for all users.

Because we recommened Air/Fuel plug and play chips, we're going to talk to you about a specific brand AutoChipsDirect. We chose to talk to you about AutoChipsDirect because we've bought quite a few chips from them, and we've loved them all. There are plenty of competitors, but we trust in ACD. First of all, their support staff is great. Anytime we need help with installation, thy're there for us. Secondly, they build them to order, in the USA, their product is affordable, and we know it works.

Plug and Play chips install in your vehicle's engine bay. They hookup directly to your vehicles Air/Fuel ratio sensor. Can you guess what they do? They change your Air/Fuel ratio (af ratio). By doing so, ACD is able to adjust your vehicles af ratio to a more optimal setting. This means you'll save gas and see an increase in performance. Not only can anybody install these in only a few minutes, but they cannot void your warranty. As soon as you remove the chip, it's like it was never there.

While there are many suppliers for Air/Fuel Ratio Plug and Play chips, we choseAutoChipsDirect. They've always kept us satisfied, and they are extremely afforadable. Whatever brand you chose, make sure you know what you're doing. For us, we'll always deal with Air/Fuel ratio Performance Chips. The ODBII and ECU replacements are just too much for us to handle, there is no need to achieve our goal - saving gas and adding power.
