Three of the 2013 'Cases' Somerset Rebels septet will be competing in the Australian Speedway Championship that begins this weekend, though for two of them a tough looking qualification meeting beckons first to determine who will join the 8 riders already seeded through to the 3-round Championship series.
Jason Doyle and Alex Davies will be among the 16 riders taking part in this Friday's qualification meeting at Gillman Raceway, the top 8 from which will then join the 8 seeded riders that will contest the Championship, which will be decided over 3 meetings, starting at Gillman on Saturday (5th) with the second and third rounds being staged at Undera and Kurri Kurri on Wednesday 9th and Saturday 12th respectively.
Both riders warmed up nicely for Friday's qualification meeting with Doyle finishing second and Davies third in the Jason Crump Invitation Meeting that was held at Kurri Kurri on Boxing Day, the meeting being won by Troy Batchelor.
For Somerset's other representative, Josh Grajczonek, he has the luxury of being able to sit out Friday night's qualification meeting, his victory in the Queensland State Championship earlier in the Australian season ensuring that he would be amongst the 8 seeded riders that are automatically through to the Championship series
