On Wednesday afternoon, February 6, the Old Church Road cinema is showing Atonement and on Wednesday afteroon, March 6, Don't Look Now.

Both showings are at 2pm and the films have a 15 classification so most local pensioners should qualify!

For anyone aged 60 plus the senior screening programme includes:

  • an introduction;
  • the film; and
  • a discussion after the film with refreshments for just £4.
For those with limited access an accompanying carer can attend free of charge.

The February and March programme has a British flavour.

The two films bring back British successes with Atonement from 2007 and from 1973 the extraordinary, chilling Don't Look Now.

Atonement is director by Joe Wright and stars Keira Knightley, James McAvoy, Saoirse Ronan and Vanessa Redgrave.

It is an adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel, set before and during World War II, and begins with 13-year-old Briony Tallis telling a lie that tragically changes the life of her older sister forever, undeservedly sending her sister's lover to prison.

Stunning performances from Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, and from Saoirse Ronan in her first role.

Atonement won an Oscar for the best original score at the 80th Academy Awards in February 2008.

Don't Look Now is directed by Nicolas Roeg and stars Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland.

Following the tragic accidental death of their young daughter, a couple relocate to Venice where two elderly sisters claim they are in touch with their deceased daughter.

It is an adaptation of the short story, Don't Look Now, by Daphne du Maurier.

This eerie thriller has become a modern classic and was a big influential for later genre films.

It was an Academy Award winner for best cinematography.

Groups from residential homes in the area and welcome at these screening.
