Volunteers working on a popular North Somerset leisure trail are acting as human sign posts to help get across safety messages.
To help promote responsible behaviour on the Strawberry Line, volunteers who help to litter pick, clear vegetation and other maintenance jobs will be wearing hi-vis vests bearing important messages to users of the route.
North Somerset Council executive member whose portfolio includes the environment Peter Bryant said: "We have had many comments from pedestrians and disabled users that they'd really like to get some warning as a cyclist approaches.
"So one of the messages on the hi-vis vests encourages cyclists to ring their bell to let others know they are there."
The other message on the vests is to dog owners, asking them to clear up after their pets with a 'bag it and bin' and 'stoop and scoop' plea.
"The Strawberry Line is a wonderful trail and we want it to be enjoyed by everyone and this innovative idea is helping to get messages across."
Groups who regularly work on the path include members of the Strawberry Line Society, Sustrans rangers, the Yatton and Congresbury Wildlife Action Team as well as the youth offending team.
They will all be donning the vests to reinforce the best behaviour messages.
The Strawberry Line Heritage Trail is an eight-mile trail providing easy level access for walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users through the heart of North Somerset.
It takes its name from the famous Cheddar strawberries which used to be carried along the route.
The route also became an important line for passengers, dairy produce and stone from Mendip quarries.
The Strawberry Line project wants to create a continuous traffic-free path from Clevedon on the coast to the market town of Shepton Mallet using as much dismantled railway track as possible.
