Bighearted people are being urged to don fancy dress for a charity fun run at Clevedon this weekend.

The event is on Saturday, February 23, from The Salthouse public house to Queen's Square shopping precinct and back and the theme is Superheroes.

One Stop Marketing boss Tommy Gibson, 32, of Wordsworth Road, is helping to organise the two mile run in aid of Make A Wish.

He is inspired to help others in memory of his sister Anna Marie who died eight years ago just six weeks after giving birth to her son Jacob.

Tommy has already decided his costume of choice will be SuperTed the fictional anthropomorphic bear character created by writer Mike Young.

Tommy said: "It will be fun loads with people running or walking from The Salthouse to precinct and back again - imagine the public reaction."

The fundraisers will be carrying collecting buckets when they set off at midday.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation UK grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

Since being established in the UK in 1986 it has granted more than 8,300 wishes.

There are 20,000 children and young people living in the UK with a life-threatening condition. and its intention is to grant a wish to every one of them.

This year the charity will be granting more than 1,100 wishes and it needs to raise £7 million to achieve this.

And on Saturday, March 16, the fundraisers are having an all day (and night) party at Clevedon town centre to raise money for the charity.

The Piazza bar is arranging a charity night with disco, a Dutch auction and karaoke.

The goal is to raise £1,000 for Make A Wish.

Tommy said: "The Piazza will be donating 10 per cent of its evening takings on top of what is raised which is remarkable.

"It's now a Saturday all day and night event with loads of stuff going on so please bring your family along – the more the merrier."

Tommy has also signed by for the Zero to Hero boxing challenge on Saturday, March 23, and is busy taking part in a 10-week training programme.

After the run on Saturday Tommy said: "We raised a total of £161.50 and a bottle of champagne which will be auctioned later.

"It was great effort and we are very happy with the donations which included a couple of Euro cents, an old 50p and someone chucked in a nail!

"Thanks to all that took part in the fancy dress run to Clevedon precinct and for all who saw our effort you can donate online at"
