It's a testament to the quality of competition and track design that

such an amazing group of racers are all within reasonable grasp of the

title at the halfway point of the series.

 Unfortunately, the field is

thinning a bit with recent injuries to Chad Reed and, last weekend,

Justin Barcia (below). Barcia is expected to at least ride practice this

weekend in Indianapolis, however, and that's great news as his hunger

for podium finishes seems stronger than ever before. Things are turning

around though, starting this weekend Dean Wilson will take Reed's spot

on the Team TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki in the 450SX class and Cole

Seely is set to step onto Trey Canard's factory MuscleMilk Honda

CRF450R. Also freshly returned is Josh Grant (who actually showed up

last weekend in Atlanta), and soon we will see the return of Davi

Millsaps (scheduled for Daytona) and Canard (Detroit).

Martin Davalos managed to keep his KX250F on two wheels for the

entire 250SX main event and come off with his first win after nine

seasons of trying. He's always been one of the fastest riders on the

track in the class, but crashes that have lead to not finishing up high

in the points have allowed him to remain in the class and not "point

out" for this long. It's possible that this year he may have brought a

little something extra to the plate and seems to be a legitimate title

hopeful. However, outdoors-style racing has never been his forte so he

probably needs to make up as many points on his teammates Blake Baggett

and Adam Cianciarulo this weekend as he can.

Speaking of the rookie points leader Cianciarulo, he continues to

impress with his speed and poise, not to mention that he hasn't missed a

holeshot yet in the four starts he's been a part of in his young AMA

Supercross career. Adam needs to be on the lookout for Davalos, though,

because as fast as this youngster has been, it seems clear over the last

two Saturday nights that the veteran has him covered speed-wise, it's

just the consistency he needs to work on. Two points separate them,

while Baggett is another nine back in third.

Another rider who'd been expected to make a run for the

championship is Geico Honda's Justin Bogle. Coming off a pre-season

injury that was fairly serious in nature, Bogle's natural ability

carried him through the previous weekend in Dallas, but in Atlanta it

seeemed Justin rounded a corner in his recovery and ran the pace

necessary for a win. Fourth in points and only eleven points down is not

a bad place to be, so don't count out the Oklahoman for the title just

yet, as he's sure to be even better in Indy this weekend.

That's the state of the series heading into Round 9 in

Indianapolis this weekend. The points are tight in both classes, we've a

new wild card in the 450 class (Wilson), and three teammates battling

for the win in 250s. To catch all the action, check here at for Live Timing & Scoring during practice and the
