Members of staff at Cossey Produce, claim to have discovered that some fruit and vegetables are said to have aphrodisiacal powers.
Director Tony Clemence has been doing some research into which bits of veg would best suit a meal for Valentine's day.
"We found that avocados were apparently used by the Aztecs and Mayans in love potions to make themselves more desirable," he said.
"In the 1870s, Arabs thought that carrots cooked in sugar would help them become more attractive to the opposite sex.
"Asparagus is supposed to increase your desire for love and in the 19th Century, French bridegrooms were said to have eaten them before going on honeymoon.
"Finally, heart shaped strawberries are said to be the symbol of Venus, who was the Roman goddess of love."
Cossey Produce, based in Bridgwater, deliver veg boxes to Clevedon and Portishead like The Veg Box shop in Clevedon.
