NORTH Somerset MP Liam Fox took time out from his role as defence secretary to meet with trustees of Clevedon Pier to discuss plans for the new visitor centre.

The educational and visitor centre, which will be built on the approach ramp to the pier, was given the go ahead last month.

It will stretch over three floors, have new toilets and a dedicated education, exhibition and refreshment area. The education room will be on the lower floor, there will be tea rooms on the ground floor and an upper deck.

Dr Fox has been a patron of the Grade 1 listed pier for several years and while he was back in the county, he met with the Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust and pier manager Linda Strong to discuss the facility and fundraising campaign.

Linda said: “As patron, we wanted to discuss with Liam Fox, ideas for raising funds and how he might be able to help, within that role.

“He was able to offer us advice and was extremely helpful and supportive.

“We were really pleased that he had time to fit us in amongst his extremely busy schedule.”

Dr Fox also enjoyed a walk along the pier with the trustees.
