ONE of the most popular attractions in the South West is to stage experience days to showcase its birds of prey and educate visitors about the ancient art of falconry.

The team at Puxton Park are passionate about promoting conservation and the history of falconry and therefore will hold a falconry weekend on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March.

It is hoped the experience days will not only educate visitors but give them a greater insight and understanding of birds of prey.

Falconer Gary Lawrence, who has over 28 years' experience and cares for 15 breeds of birds, will conduct flying displays in the main arena at 11am and 1pm on both days.

The displays will offer the rare chance to see Eagles, Falcons, Hawks and Owls as they swoop, dive and soar through the sky.

Gary will also explain why the birds hunt and fly as they do, where they come from in the wild and how they are trained.

There will also be an opportunity on both days to participate in an owl encounter in our owl barn and meet Puxton's falconry mascot, Owlbert Einstein.

He said: "This weekend promises to be a fun family weekend.

"We hope that by raising public awareness of the needs and habitats of birds of prey through centres such as ours, we can all play a part in the preservation of these fine creatures to enrich the lives of future generations."

The weekend will also give youngsters the chance to take part in treasure hunts throughout both days at the falconry centre.

Due to popular public demand there will also be lambing encounters on both days giving youngsters the chance to get up close, bottle feed the lambs and possibly see a lamb or two being born.
