Weston Operatic Society present the multiple Tony award winning musical Hello Dolly at the Playhouse Theatre next month (April).
Weston Operatic Society, which features talented actors and actresses of all ages, will perform the show over four nights.
Hello Dolly is one of the most enduring hits of the musical world and has had at least three Broadway revivals since its first appearance in 1964.
Set in New York at the turn of the last century, this show has many memorable songs including 'Put On Your Sunday Clothes', 'When The Parade Passes By', and of course the title song itself 'Hello Dolly' made famous by the late Louis Armstrong.
Weston Operatic Society first performed the show in 1974 and again in 1988, now 25-years later the talented cast bring the show back to the Playhouse stage with Robbie Burns and Maureen Wycherly in the leading roles.
Robbie plays store owner and half millionaire Horace Vandergelder, and Maureen is the interfering widow and professional matchmaker Dolly Levi who is in search of love.
Weston Operatic Society spokesman, Colin Tyler, said: "Most people will remember the film Hello Dolly made famous by Barbara Streisand and the song made famous by the late Louis Armstong in the 1960s.
"Robbie Burns played the chief clerk in our 1988 show and he says it has taken 25-years to get promoted to store owner.
"Dolly is always interfering with other people's lives but really she wants to fix herself up with Horace.
Will Dolly Levi be able to get her own man? Come and see the show and find out."
"Hello Dolly" runs at The Playhouse, Weston-super-Mare, from Wednesday 3 April – Saturday 6 April with performances at 7.30pm on Wednesday – Friday and at 2pm and 6.30pm on Saturday. Tickets £13 on Wednesday, £15 Thursday-Saturday and Saturday matinee £11.50 can be purchased from The Playhouse Box Office on 01934 645544.
