Talented young dancers from across the South West who auditioned last year for the professional, full-length ballet of The Sleeping Beauty, will take to the stage this month (March).
Award-winning English Youth Ballet held auditions in 2012 to find 100 young male and female dancers aged eight-18-years to fill the various roles in the magical production of The Sleeping Beauty.
The selected dancers will now be given the opportunity of a lifetime when they perform corps de ballet and soloist roles in this glittering production at The Playhouse Theatre alongside international principal dancers Amy Drew, Brenden Bratulic and Steven Wheeler, who will dance the leading roles.
The most famous of all ballets, Sleeping Beauty highlights the magic and splendour of the triumph of good over evil. As Aurora *****s her finger the curse of the wicked Aunt Carabosse comes true until the Prince awakens her with a kiss, the spell is broken and Carabosse dies.
English Youth Ballet's policy is to perform full length productions of classical ballet in regional UK theatres and to give young dancers outside London an opportunity to perform within a professional setting.
Its large cast ensures that each ballet is performed with the scale and grandeur which was originally intended.
The company is one of the largest in the UK and is made up of seven professional principals and 100 local dancers aged eight – 18-years.
EYB principal dancers are of the highest calibre and have joined EYB from companies such as English National Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
English Youth Ballet boasts sell-out performances last year and audiences can witness their splendour over two days.
"English Youth Ballet" will be at the Playhouse, Weston-super-Mare, on Friday 8 March and Saturday 9 March, 7.30pm with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Tickets priced £19.50, £17.50, with concessions available on all performances, are on sale at the box office on 01934 645 544 or online at http://tinyurl.com/ckzqxvr
